Corgi Toys is a British die-cast model car brand that was founded in 1956 by the Mettoy Company in Swansea, Wales. The brand was created to compete with Dinky Toys, offering highly detailed miniature vehicles with plastic windows, a feature that was revolutionary at the time.
Corgi became famous for producing licensed replicas of iconic cars, including the James Bond Aston Martin DB5, which remains one of the best-selling toy cars of all time. The company also introduced Corgi Rockets, a futuristic line of die-cast vehicles with integrated rocket launchers.
After facing financial difficulties, Corgi went through several ownership changes, including being acquired by Mattel in 1989 and later becoming independent again in 1995. In 2008, the brand was purchased by Hornby, which continues to produce collector-grade models today.
