Gothaer Waggonfabrik was a German manufacturer originally focused on railway rolling stock, founded in 1880 in Gotha, Germany. Over time, it expanded into aircraft production, notably during World War I, when it developed the Gotha bombers, which were among the first aircraft used for strategic bombing missions. During the interwar period, the company briefly entered automobile manufacturing, producing the Dixi 3/15, which was later acquired by BMW. In World War II, Gothaer Waggonfabrik shifted back to aviation, producing military gliders and aircraft components. After the war, it was nationalized and became VEB Waggonbau Gotha, focusing on tram and railway car production. The company ceased operations in 1997.
